Trash Collection

Trash will be collected once a week.

Household trash must be placed in customer-owned cans or up to 10 disposable bags. When filled, containers may not weigh more than 50 pounds.

   

Place all trash items out no later than 7:00 am for pickup between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm on your service day. Please ensure the trash containers are clear of obstructions.

Recycling Services

Recycling will be picked up once a week.

All recyclables must be placed inside the blue recycle cart. Up to one (1) cubic yard of additional recyclable items will be serviced outside the cart.

Place all recyclable items out no later than 7:00 am, for pickup between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm on your service day. For efficient driver retrieval, place the blue cart with wheels toward the street. Please ensure the recycle cart is clear of obstructions.

Recycling Guidelines

Bulk Collection

Bulky waste will be collected on your regular service day. You are limited to two (2) cubic yards of bulky waste per pickup.

Important! CWD does not provide pickup for commercial demolition, construction, nor remodeling debris. Household debris must be containerized to be eligible for pickup. The box or other disposable container must be no larger than 2′ x 2′ x 4′ and weigh no more than 50 pounds.

Place all bulky waste next to your trash receptacle no later than 7:00 am on your designated service day.

  • Toys and Yard Tools Tagged as “Bulk Item”
  • Furniture
  • Bundled Carpet in 4-foot Lengths
  • Fence Panels No Larger than 4′ x 6′
  • Washing Machines, Dryers, Water Heaters and Kitchen Appliances
  • Refrigerators/Freezers (must be tagged certifying removal of refrigerants)
  • Additional Trash Bags

Bulk Items – Prohibited

  • Single Items Weighing More than 150 lbs.
  • Commercial Construction and Remodeling Debris
  • Household Hazardous Waste
  • Tires, Batteries, and Propane Tanks
  • Loose Debris (Debris must be placed in a box or other container no larger than 2′ x 2′ x 4′ and weigh no more than 50 pounds.)

Optional Dropoff for Bulk & Trash Items

Once a month, up to three (3) cubic yards of additional trash and bulk items may be dropped off at the CWD Transfer Station, 2010 California Crossing Road in Dallas. Operating hours are Wednesday – Saturday, 8:00 am – 1:00 pm, excluding holidays. A copy of your current water bill is required.

Yard waste will be collected every Monday.

Loose yard waste and lawn trimmings must be placed in biodegradable brown kraft bags (up to 20) and set out for pickup.

Tied & Bundled Brush

All trees, shrubs and brush trimmings not contained in kraft bags must be cut, tied with biodegradable cotton/jute rope, twine, or string, placed in bundles, and set out without obstructing the sidewalk. Individual bundles should weigh no more than 50 lbs., and be no longer than four (4) feet. Do not bundle tree and brush trimmings with nylon rope, plastic, metal, garden hoses, or other non-compostable materials.

Household Hazardous Waste & Used Electronics Door-side Collection

CWD’s Door-side Collection program encourages safe, easy, and responsible disposal of approved hazardous waste and used electronics. This service is provided for Highland Village residents up to once a month, and is included in your regular monthly trash and recycling charge.  Items accepted via the HHW & Used Electronics Door-side Collection program include poison, solvent, oil-based and latex paint, aerosols, used motor oil, auto batteries, fluorescent tubes, and televisions.

Household batteries may also be dropped into the City’s Battery Buckets.

How to Prepare for your HHW & Used Electronics Collection

  1. Call CWD at 972.392.9300, Option 2.
  2. CWD will mail you a collection kit.
  3. Assemble your HHW according to the instructions provided.
  4. Place your HHW at your doorstep, where CWD will pick it up.

Bags must be placed near your entrance door, garage, or another area IN FRONT OF YOUR HOME. Do NOT place HHW curbside. Please ensure your HHW is visible from the street.

  • Do not overfill the bag.
  • Only the bag provided to you may be used.
  • Bag must be closed securely.
  • Items outside the bag must be placed in a cardboard box.
  • Do not drag the bag.
  • Pack the bag where it will be placed for collection and place all electronics, auto batteries and fluorescent tubes outside the bag.
  • Wrap multiple fluorescent tubes together with tape. If available, use the original packaging to hold the tubes and stand them up to prevent breakage.
  • Do not fill with pool chemicals as this can start a fire.

Cart Upgrades

If you would like to upgrade to a 95-gallon recycle cart at no additional cost or if your cart has been damaged or needs replacement due to normal wear and tear, please fill out a cart request form on the Highland Village website.

Q   I would love to replace my current recycle cart with a larger, 95-gallon model. How do I do that and does it cost anything?
A   Please fill out the online form on the City of Highland Village website. There is no additional cost to you to upgrade to the larger size!

Q   Where can I purchase the brown biodegradable bags for the yard waste program?
A   The bags can be purchased at Lowe’s, Home Depot, and most grocery stores.

Q   Where can I take my extra trash or bulk to dispose of it myself?
A   Once a month, up to three (3) cubic yards of additional trash and bulk items can be taken to the CWD Transfer Station (2010 California Crossing Road in Dallas) Wednesday – Saturday between the hours of 8:00 am and 1:00 pm, excluding holidays.
