Recycling Guidelines

Composting Services

Compost services are provided weekly, on the same day as your trash service.

Brick, rock, gravel, concrete, dirt, sod and treated/painted fence panels are not considered yard trimmings and not accepted in the program. These items must be disposed at the 121 Regional Disposal Facility (RDF) for a fee.

Compost items need to be put in biodegradable paper bags, which can be purchased at most local grocery and hardware stores. No plastic bags will be accepted. Bags cannot weigh more than 50 pounds each and should be placed within clear sight of the collection point, but at least 2 feet away from the trash and recycling carts.

  • Place yard trimmings curbside by 7 a.m. on your designated trash collection day.
  • Include bagged grass clippings, bagged leaves, plant materials and small cuttings.
  • Use biodegradable paper lawn bags that can be purchased at local grocery and home improvement stores.
  • City has set a maximum weekly limit of 15 yard waste bags for residential customers.
  • No plastic bags will be accepted.
  • Tree and brush trimmings must be tied into 4’ x 2’ bundles and secured with biodegradable cotton/jute rope, twine, or string, for collection. Do not bundle tree and brush trimmings with nylon rope, plastic, metal, garden hoses, or other non-compostable materials.
  • City has set a maximum weekly limit of seven (7) bundles. Excess amount may require special scheduling. Restrictions apply. See guidelines under Bulk Yard Trimming and Alternative Disposal Options.
  • Corrugated cardboard boxes need to be empty, flattened, stacked and bound with string, twine or rope.
  • Each bundle or bag must weigh less than 40 pounds.
  • Place within clear sight of your trash cart, no closer than two feet.
  • Yard trimmings do not include dirt, gravel, rock, concrete or sod.

Residents can schedule a once a month service for a large amount of loose brush (not to exceed 3 cubic yards). Call CWD (972.392.9300) by noon on Tuesday for a Wednesday collection.
