Trash
In partnership with the City of Allen to keep Allen beautiful, CWD provides a comprehensive program for all refuse and recycling needs.
Trash services are provided weekly.
Carts must be properly placed by 7 a.m. on your pickup day.

All trash items must fit inside your city-provided 95-gallon cart. All 95-gallon carts and recycling containers shall not be stored at curbside. Carts and recycling containers shall be returned within 24 hours after scheduled pickup to a sight line within or adjoining the residence, or inside a storage area which is located behind the front building line of your residence.

Please place all trash inside bags before putting into cart. Trash outside the cart will not be serviced.

The cart should be placed at the edge of the driveway and road with the lid COMPLETELY CLOSED with the handle facing the residence. Parked vehicles and other obstacles (i.e., gas meters, fences, electrical boxes, cable boxes, etc.) should be at least 2 feet from the trash cart.

Recycle

Recyclables can be commingled in your blue 95-gallon recycling cart. Recycling services are provided every other week, on the same day as your trash service. Carts must be properly placed by 7 a.m. on your pickup day.

  • Dry un-yellowed newspapers (including inserts), phone books, magazines catalogs, and junk mail may be placed either in the bottom of your bin or beside it in a brown paper sack.
  • Shredded paper (please place in paper bag to avoid scattering during collection)
  • Corrugated containers that are broken down
  • Chipboard containers that are broken down; chipboard, or paperboard, is used to make tissue boxes, cereal boxes, shoe boxes, etc.
  • Acceptable containers are:
    • plastic bottles #’s 1 – 5 and #7 (numbers can be found inside chasing arrows on side or bottom of bottles)
    • flattened aluminum drink cans
    • tin/steel cans, empty aerosol cans
    • unbroken glass bottles and jars
    • All Containers Must be Rinsed

A one-time service to collect flattened and stacked cardboard boxes is provided to new resident move-ins. New residents must call the city (214.509.4500) by noon Friday to make arrangements for this one-time cardboard collection for next-day pickup on Saturday.
Wrapping paper (no bubble-wrap or foam) from the boxes may be placed in a large cardboard container and collected during the same-day service.

Compost

Compost services are provided weekly, on the same day as your trash service.

Brick, rock, gravel, concrete, dirt, sod, treated/painted fence panels are not considered yard trimmings and not accepted in the program. These items must be disposed at the 121 Regional Disposal Facility (RDF) for a fee.

Compost items need to be put in biodegradable paper bags, which can be purchased at most local grocery and hardware stores. No plastic bags will be accepted. Bags cannot weigh more than 50 pounds each and should be placed within clear sight of the collection point, but at least 2 feet away from the trash and recycling carts.

  • Place yard trimmings curbside by 7 a.m. on your designated trash collection day
  • Include bagged grass clippings, bagged leaves, plant materials, and small cuttings
  • Use biodegradable paper lawn bags that can be purchased at local grocery and home improvement stores
  • City has set a maximum weekly limit of fifteen (15) yard waste bags for residential customers
  • No plastic bags will be accepted
  • Tree and brush trimmings must be tied into 4’ x 2’ bundles secured with biodegradable string, twine or rope for collection
  • City has set a maximum weekly limit of seven (7) bundles. Excess amount may require special scheduling; restrictions apply see guidelines under Bulk Yard Trimming and Alternative Disposal Options
  • Corrugated cardboard boxes need to be empty, flattened, stacked, and bound with string, twine or rope
  • Each bundle or bag must weigh less than 40 pounds
  • Place within clear sight of your trash cart, no closer than two feet
  • Yard trimmings do not include dirt, gravel, rock, concrete or sod

Residents can schedule a once a month service for a large amount of loose brush (not to exceed 3 cubic yards) may call CWD (972.392.9300) by noon on Tuesday for a Wednesday collection.

Bulky Waste

Once monthly, each household may place a maximum of five (5) items out for collection (each weighing such that 2 men and lift)

Accepted
Kitchen appliances, water heaters, washing machines, dryers, furniture, toys (must be tagged as “bulk items”), yard tools (must be tagged as “bulk items”), refrigerators (freon must be removed and certified with a tag on the appliance.)

Not Accepted
Any bags or boxes with regular household trash, construction or remodeling debris, tree limbs or trunks, yard trimmings, dead animals, fence material, and hazardous waste i.e., paint, motor oil, pool chemicals, paint

Special collection of items that do not fit into the bulk category must be arranged through CWD and are subject to an additional charge for collection.

Residents must call CWD (972.392.9300) by noon the Friday for a Saturday collection on their scheduled week.

Apartments

Allen residents who live in apartment complexes can place their recyclables in special CWD containers located in the complexs’ parking lots.

Accepted materials:

The fees for apartment recycling are assessed to the apartment owner/management company, not to the individual apartment unit.

Commercial

For commercial & industrial customers we have several equipment options:

  • side-load containers: 2, 3 or 4 yard
  • front-load containers: 4, 6 or 8 yard
  • open top roll-off containers: 20, 30 or 40 yard
  • compactors: 20, 28, 30 or 35 yard

These can be hauled according to set schedules or on an “on call” basis.
Temporary construction roll-off containers are available for a single haul or for multiple hauls and can be used by both individuals as well as businesses.

CWD does NOT provide temporary restroom facility services.

Questions & Answers

Q How do I get my trash cart replaced if it is damaged by the trash or has normal wear and tear? Does it cost anything?
A Please call CWD at 972.392.9300. There is not a cost for replacements unless the damage is caused by fire. If the damaged is caused by fire there is a replacement cost.

Q How do I get extra trash collected or items that are not in compliance picked up?
A You can call Customer Service and request and estimate for a special pickup, at 972.392.9300. Estimates are free.

Q Who do I call to get an extra trash or recycle cart and what does it cost?
A Please call CWD at 972.392.9300 for customer service.

Q Where can I purchase the brown biodegradable bags for the yard waste program?
A The bags can be purchased at Lowes, Home Depot and most grocery stores.

Q Where can I take my extra trash or bulk to dispose of it myself?
A You can take items to the Custer Road Transfer Station located at 9901 Custer Road. It is south of Highway 121, off of Custer. Their phone number is 972.727.6341. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
